Children of the Ritz

In the Spring of 1926 we published Cornell Woolrich’s novel

Cover Charge.

It was presented to us in the previous autumn, by a young man, just nineteen, still attending courses at Columbia University and it was one of the very few unsolicited manuscripts submitted to us during the course of the year that we were able to accept.

With this new novel,

Children of the Ritz

, Mr. Woolrich has won, in competition with a great many older and more experienced writers, the ten thousand dollar prize offered by

College Humor

in association with

First National Pictures

for the best manuscript submitted to them.

A spoiled rich girl falls for a poor chauffeur. Their situations are changed when her family loses all their money and he wins $50,000 at a racetrack. They get married, but it’s not long before she starts spending their money the way she used to spend hers.
